Graveside services for Betty Elaine Blanke, age 82, of Billings, MT formerly of Mott, ND will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the Sunnyslope Cemetery in Mott.

Betty passed away on early Monday morning April 5, 2010 at Riverstone Hospice House in Billings Heights.

Betty was born July 21, 1927 in Bismarck, North Dakota, one of four unique and amazing sisters, to John and Alma Blanke of Mott, North Dakota.

Sharp as a tack, Valedictorian of her class and with a strong spirit of adventure, Betty came to Billings to attend Rocky Mountain College. She then worked for First National Bank, on the corner of 28th and 2ndAvenue in Billings. Betty thrived in the financial world and helped pave the way for independent working women for the next fifty years. She retired from Wells Fargo Bank an esteemed student loan officer.

Betty was a master of procrastination. If something could be done later, it would be. When the doctor told Betty she had late stage cancer, she told him she wasn't ready to die. She had nearly a year of love, laughter and friendship, lunches, coffee and company with special friends like her McDonald's coffee group, her nieces and nephews, Red Hats, and Congregational Church circle.

Although Betty never married, her life was full of children who knew and loved her as a neighbor, a friend, an aunt. Even when they moved away they stayed involved in her life, drawing her pictures, writing letters, bringing her presents and coming for visits.

Betty's gracious manner and quick wit won her many lifelong friends. She was blessed to have so many, many friends pass though her life. She remembered their names, even from childhood, and appreciated their kindnesses and stories. She loved them all in return. She loved her nieces and nephews and their interest in her well-being. Her family will long remember her humor and tenacious love of life.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Kathleen Blanke, Jeane Mooney, JoAnne Peisen and one nephew William (Val) Peisen.

Betty is survived by her nieces and nephews: John Peisen (Mary) Rockwell, TX; Teresa (John) Sanders, Madison, WI; Jerome (Susan) Mooney, LaCrosse, WI; Thomas (Sharon) Mooney, Aurora, CO; Michael Mooney, El Segundo, CA; Steven (Jessica) Mooney, Minneapolis, MN; Joseph (Vickie) Mooney, Baraboo, WI; Mary (Phil) Mooney Nachazel, Traverse City, MI. Betty is also survived by her dear brother-in-law, George Peisen, McAllen, TX and her Goddaughter, Dawn Holly Buck (Bruce), Denver, CO.

Thank you to Dr. Marty Lucas and the staff members of Hematology and Oncology, the kind staff at Aspen Meadows Rehab Center and the caring, valiant staff of Riverstone Health Care and Horizon Hospice House. A special thanks to all of her dear, dear friends who helped so much in her final weeks.

Remembrances in Betty's memory can be directed to Horizon Hospice House (1019 Neptune Blvd., Billings, MT 59105) or to a charity of your preference.
