Funeral services for Robert "Bob" Katus, age 74, of Watauga, SD will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in McIntosh, SD. Pastor Daniel Lewig will officiate with burial to follow in the St. Michael's Cemetery. A luncheon will be served at the Watauga Hall following the burial.
Special music will be provided by Coleen Schaffer, organist and Keith Gall, soloist.
Serving as casketbearers are Cole Katus, Braydon Katus, Clifford Johnson, Doug Striegel, Jeff Lemke, and Nick Nehl. Serving as Honorary Casketbearers are Jaci and Tally Katus and Nicole and Morgan Laub.
Robert "Bob" Katus was born on October 30, 1938 to Ralph and Mary (Spicer) Katus in McIntosh, SD. In 1939, Bob moved with his family to Columbia, SD. In 1943, the family moved to the Spicer Ranch in Grant County, ND. Bob attended Cedar Elementary School in Grant County, Northwestern Lutheran Academy in Mobridge, SD and McIntosh High School in McIntosh, SD, where he graduated in 1959. Bob attended an electrician's school in Yakima, WA in 1960-1961.
Bob married Margie Mosbrucker on February 16, 1963 in Mott, ND. Since that time, Bob and Margie have lived on and operated the original Spicer Ranch in Grant County, ND. Bob served on the Winona Township Board for over 30 years, St. Paul's Lutheran Church board and Mor-Gran-Sou electric board for nine years. Bob enjoyed recording and reporting the weather for the National Weather Service for nearly 45 years receiving the prestigious John Campanius Holm Award for outstanding service to his community and the National Weather Service.
He retired from ranching in 2011. Bob especially enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren on the banks of the Cedar River.
Bob passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, ND, with his family by his side.
Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margie Katus, Watauga, SD; children, Stacey (Greg) Laub, Rapid City, SD, and Scott (Heather) Katus, Watauga, SD; grandchildren, Nicole and Morgan Laub, Jaci, Cole, Braydon and Tally Katus; sister, Marian (David) Lemke, Snohomish, WA; brother, Dennis (Rhalene) Katus, Bayard, NE; aunt, Ruth Katus, Lemmon, SD; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mary Katus; niece, Kimberly Lemke; and nephew, Rodney Lemke.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday morning.
